Tangulia Mara

Who we are

TanguliaMara camp is a rustic and cozy tented bush camp perched on a leafy hill overlooking the Olotulo-Murt salt lick, by the Mara River. It is located on private land and has an emphasis on authentic safari and African experiences. Tangulia is a Swahili word meaning “to lead.” Our camp’s mission is to be the leaders in African Safari by allowing our guests a comfortable private stay with an array of unique safari experiences that will remain in your heart for a lifetime.

Our Location

Tangulia Mara camp is located between the Mara North Conservancy and the Maasai Mara game reserve by the Mara River. Our ideal location is only a twenty minutes’ drive to the Musiara airstrip and thirty minutes to Kichwa Tembo airstrip, equally a fifteen-minute drive takes one into the Maasai Mara game reserve. Our Camp is centrally located and this allows our guests an opportunity to view either side of the Maasai Mara game reserve, Community conservancies as well as closer proximity to the ones who would like to visit local schools and villages upon request.

Ownership

Going with our slogan of being the Avant-Garde, Tangulia Mara camp is entirely locally owned and run. This is the only camp in the entire reserve that is a hundred percent locally owned and run. The directors are Mr. Jackson Looseyia and Mr. Dominic Nchoe, who were born and raised within the Maasai Mara area. This makes our camp the ultimate destination for anyone who hopes to experience the Mara from the roots. Dominic Nchoe is a seasoned businessman with many years of experience in camp management. He owned another camp at the same location before his partnership with Mr.Looseyia and has a deep understanding of the Maasai Mara, he is a devoted conservationist who established Lemek Community Conservancy where he sits in its management board. Jackson Looseyia is a seasoned and highly acclaimed safari guide with over 25 years of experience guiding in the Mara. Having grown up in the area, he has a deep understanding of every nook and cranny in the Maasai Mara and a penchant for safari that is hard to miss. He has worked with BBC Big Cat diaries and holds an in-depth knowledge of the Maasai Mara ecosystem as well as the Kenyan wildlife in general.

Our Tents

We have a total of 8 luxurious tents which includes one family tent. We accommodate up to eighteen guests at full capacity. The camp is set to remain quaint to give our guests the ultimate intimate experience.

We have handmade king size beds in our tents and an additional single bed in some of our tents. The salt lick is a favorite spot for a lot of the wildlife in the area and this is the reason why we take advantage of this view. The Mara river view is seen from the front porch of most of our tents.

The leafy bushes surround the rest of our tents and leave each one feeling cool, private and intimate. Winding paths lead to each tent, and with our camp being unfenced, wildlife is welcome to roam freely around camp. Our camp askaris escort guests back to their rooms at night.

Running taps and hot showers are available throughout. Our baths and toilet areas are ensuite. Note that the water on the taps is ideal for washing up not for drinking. We provide clean drinking water in beaded glass bottles in each bedside table and bathroom vanity.

Our homely tents are cleaned every day with our dedicated team of staff and replenished with our eco-friendly handmade supplies. We source our incredible products locally and give our guests the best of hypoallergenic and gorgeously scented soaps and shampoos throughout their stay.

Drinks

The camp offers a variety of alcoholic beverages that will be served to your liking. We have fresh juices and sodas as well for those who prefer something non-alcoholic. We advise our customers to make their requests when booking if they require a specific brand.

Quality Food

The chef in charge of the Tangulia Mara kitchen is an experienced and passionate man. He has years of experience cooking traditional, local and diet specific cuisine. Our meals are warm and hearty, coupled with a variety of beverages. Expect fresh salads with creative dressings, and hearty soups served over a communal handmade dining table in our mess area. A wide variety of food from pasta dishes to red and white meat, our chef is sure to bless your taste buds and equally leave you yearning for more. We never forget the 4 o’clock tea with a variety of exciting pastries and some classics (yes we occasionally serve brownies). After your exciting game drives, we offer bitings over wine by a fire, a great time to converse and relax as you await dinner. Full board customers get the chance to go down by the river and enjoy a bowl of bitings and drinks at our highly acclaimed sundowner.

Our goal is to ensure utmost comfort and convenience as you experience the authentic beauty and serenity of the Maasai Mara.
